Diary of Charles Dudley Rhodes, 1885-1940 (bulk 1885-1919).

Typescript copy (made and annotated 1935-1940) of diary entitled "Diary Notes of a Soldier," recounting Rhodes' experiences (1885-1919) as a cadet at West Point; member of the 6th Cavalry during the BruleĢ-Sioux (or Pine Ridge) Indian War; member of the Santiago Expedition during the Spanish-American War; member of the China Relief Expedition during the Boxer Rebellion; cavalry officer during the Philippine Insurrection; member of a 1909 anti-piracy expedition in the Sulu Archipelago; member of a secret military mission into Mexico in 1911; and in France during World War I as a brigadier general of field artillery (82d Division), a major general in command of the 42d Division, and a representative to the Permanent Interallied Armistice Commission in Spa, Belgium. Includes photographs.

Graduated from West Point as Lieutenant and ordered to 6th Cavalry. Served in campaigns against the Sioux Indians, 1890-1891. Aide to Inspector General and adjutant to 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 5th Army Corps in Santiago de Cuba. Was with the China Relief Expedition and in the Philippine Insurrection. During World War I as Brigadier General (1917) commanded 157th Field Artillery Brigade and saw action in Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives.
